     A passport is a travel document that says that the person who owns it is a citizen of the country on the passport. A passport asks that the person carrying it be allowed to enter and pass through other countries. They also allow a person to re-enter their country. Passports are given by national governments.

     You can have Indian Passport through a naturalization process

  • What is the difference in Ordinary, Diplomatic or official passport?Open or Close

     Ordinary Passport : An ordinary passport is navy blue in color and is issued for ordinary travel or business trips.

     Diplomatic Passport : The cover of a diplomatic passport is maroon in color. It is issued only to Indian diplomats, diplomatic couriers or top-ranking government officials.

     Official Passport : Apart from the navy blue and maroon passports, the Indian government also issues a white-cover passport to individuals who are representing the Indian government on official business.

     All the Indians who travel for everyday purposes apply for an ordinary passport however government workers who are being sent overseas on official business apply for Diplomatic or official passport service according to the need.

  • What happens when you lose the passport?Open or Close

     Passports are essential legal documents and if you lose your passport or by any chance, it is damaged or stolen then it has to be reported to the Police. Then only can you apply to have your passport reissued.

  • What is the duration to get a passport?Open or Close

     As per Government rules, the standard time duration is 30 days from the date of request.

  • What are the Documents required for a passport?Open or Close

     Documents required for a fresh passport

     Photo passbook of running bank account in any public sector bank, private sector bank and regional rural banks
     A voter ID card
     Aadhaar card
     Electricity bill
     Rent agreement
     Driving license
     PAN card
     Landline or postpaid mobile bill
     Proof of gas connection
     Spouse’s passport copy (First and last page of the passport that includes the details of the family and mentions applicants name as the spouse of the passport holder)
     Certificate from Employer of reputed companies on letterhead.
     Income Tax assessment order
     School leaving certificate
     Birth certificate issued by the Municipal Corporation
     Policy Bond issued by the Public Life Insurance Corporations/Companies having the DOB of the holder of the insurance policy

     Documents required for minors fresh passport

     Parents original and self-attested copies of the passport should be carried
     Proof of current address in the parent's name
     Photo passbook of running bank account in any public sector bank, private sector bank and regional rural banks
     Birth certificate
     Policy Bond issued by the Public Life Insurance Corporations/Companies having the DOB of the holder of the insurance policy
     Aadhaar card or e-Aadhaar
     PAN Card
     School leaving certificate/ Secondary school leaving certificate
     School or university 10th standard mark’s card

  • What are the documents required to re-issue the passport?Open or Close

     Documents required to re-issue the passport

     All the documents are mandatory:

     Old original passport

     Self-attested photocopy of:

     The first two and last two pages
     ECR/Non-ECR page
     Page of validity extension (if any)
     Page of observation (if any) made by Passport Issuing Authority
     No Objection Certificate (NOC)/Prior Intimation Letter (PI)

     Note : Original documents must also be produced at the counter, which will be returned after verification.

  • What is a Tatkal Passport?Open or Close

     A Tatkal passport application is generally processed in three to seven days. However, the paperwork requirements are slightly higher than in the normal mode.

     Verification Certificate as per Annexure F

     Any 3 of the below documents:

     Election card
     Service Photo ID Card
     Certificate of SC/ST/OBC
     Identity cards of Freedom Fighters
     Arms License
     Ration card
     Property documents
     Pension documents
     Railway Photo Identity card
     PAN card issued by the Income Tax Department
     Bank passbook
     Student's Id card from a recognized institution
     Driving license
     Birth certificate
     Gas connection bill

  • What is the Eligibility of getting a Tatkaal passport?Open or Close

     Tatkaal Scheme Eligibility

     The jurisdictional passport office has the final say for issuance of passports under this scheme. This would depend on the urgency coupled with other compelling factors of the applicant.

     Applicants falling in the category below cannot apply/reapply for a passport under the Tatkaal scheme.

     Citizens born to Indian parents outside India (Indian descent)
     Indian citizens who've been granted citizenship status based on naturalization/registration
     Applicants who've been deported to India from other countries
     Applicants who've been repatriated from a different country at government's cost
     Name change - major
     Residents of Jammu & Kashmir and Nagaland
     Naga origin citizens residing outside Nagaland
     Children adopted by Indian and foreign parents
     Minor children with single parent
     Minors residing in Nagaland
     Short passport validity renewal applicants
     Reapplication due to a lost or stolen passport
     Application due to the passport being damaged beyond recognition
     Change in sex or appearance
     Change in personal credentials such as a signature.

  • What happens when you reschedule your visit to GSC's Passport facility Center?Open or Close

     Appointments that have been confirmed can be rescheduled 2 times within that year of the first appointment date.
